DirectionsThis page includes directions to the various places that Shire members hold or have held meetings, work sessions, practices, etc. Corrections are requested, and can be emailed to webminister(at)rokeclif.org. Township of Buffalo ParkFrom La Crosse and points south: Take 53 north from LaCrosse. At Galesville, 53 will go north to Ettrick. Don't take it. Continue straight on 54 toward Winona. Go through Centerville approximately 7-8 miles from Centerville. The Township of Buffalo Park will be on the left. It contains a shelter, a building, and a baseball diamond. To the UW-La Crosse Cartwright CenterFrom North of LaCrosse,: Take the Hwy. 16 exit south into La Crosse. At Sound World, Hwy. 16 goes to the right, but you will need to continue south onto Losey Blvd. Continue south for 4 blocks until State Street. Take a right onto State Street. After 4 blocks you will see Cartwright Center on your right. Park on the street or in nearby metered lots. The 4th Floor is actually the third floor above ground From South of La Crosse: Take Hwy 61 north into La Crosse. Take a right onto Losey Blvd. Continue north on Losey for approximately 2.5 miles until you reach State Street. Take a left onto State Street. After 4 blocks you will see Cartwright Center on your right. Park on the street or in nearby metered lots. The 4th Floor is actually the third floor above ground. To Coon Valley ParkFrom La Crosse, North of Coon Valley: Take 14/61 south from La Crosse. As you approach the village of Coon Valley, a park with a gazebo will be visible on the left, a couple blocks from the highway. Take the first available left after crossing the bridge. From South of Coon Valley: Take 14/61 north. As you approach the village of Coon Valley, a park with a gazebo will be visible on the rigth, a couple blocks from the highway. Take the first available right after crossing the bridge. To the Ettrick Public LibraryFrom La Crosse: Ettrick is about 8 miles north of Galesville on Highway 53. Once you reach the Ettrick 45 mph zone, turn right at the gas station. Take a right at the first stop sign (Main Street) and go one block. Take a left onto School Street and go one block to the next stop sign. The library is on the soutwest corner of the elementary school building (a big yellow building). To Kitab and Katarina's HomeFrom the North, South and West of La Crosse: Take your best route to Losey Blvd. South. Turn east at Ward Avenue. Turn left at 32rd Street South. Rod and Kathy's house (2710) is brown and has a ramp in the front. From the East of La Crosse: Take your best route to Highway 33. Turn left (South) on 32nd Street. Rod and Kathy's house (2710) is brown and has a ramp in the front. To Kudrun's HomeEttrick is on Highway 53 about 8 miles north of Galesville. There are two bridges across the creek that runs parallel to 53. Take the northernmost, following the sign to Melrose. The street ends abruptly at Main Street, forcing you to turn or to drive into the bank building, which is not a good idea. Turn left, proceeding only to the end of the block (Second Street) where there is a cute little red brick building labled "TATE BANK" on the corner. Turn right, and proceed a half block. Kudrun's house is the two-story white castle with a little turret, at 15722 East Second. If the street is full of carriages, go left into the alley beyond the next house, and make another left into another alley, and you can park in the Post Office lot and come through the garden. If you get lost, the phone number is (608) 525-8400 -- but if you get lost in Ettrick, you're probably not SCA material. ;-) To the La Crosse Public Library – Main Street BranchFrom I-90 North or South of La Crosse: Take the Hwy. 53 Exit South (Exit 3 from the South and Exit 3B from the North) into La Crosse. Continue south for approximately 3.5 miles until you reach Main Street. Take a left onto Main Street. Continue on Main Street until you see the library on your right. The address of the library is 800 Main Street. Parking is located at the rear of the library.
From South La Crosse: Take Hwy 61 North into La Crosse. Take a right onto Hwy. 35 (West Avenue). If you pass Gunderson Lutheran Medical Center you have gone too far. Continue north on West Avenue for ~19 blocks until you reach Main Street. Take a left at Main Street. Continue on Main Street until you see the library on your left. The address of the library is 800 Main Street. Parking is located at the rear of the library. To Maewyn's HomeFrom all directions: Take Highway 53 to the McHugh Rd exit (north of Holmen). Take the exit, then turn left onto McHugh Rd. Travel on McHugh Rd for about 1.5 miles until you you come to County Highway XX (this will be a T-intersection so you will have to turn); turn right onto County Highway XX. Maewyn's house is about two miles down the road on the left. It has a tan and brick front (on the corner of Cty. Hwy. XX and Oepka St.) in New Amsterdam. To Myrick ParkFrom Northwest or West of La Crosse: Take your best route to Highway 53 South into La Crosse. Turn left (east) at La Crosse Street. Myrick Park is on La Crosse Street, on your left as you drive east.
From Northeast of La Crosse: Take your best route to Highway 16 into La Crosse. Highway 16 will dog-leg west and become La Crosse Street. Myrick Park is on La Crosse Street, on your right as you drive west.
From East of La Crosse: Take your best route to Highway 33 into La Crosse. Turn right onto Losey Boulevard and follow it north. Take a left onto La Crosse Street, which is also Highway 16 going west. Myrick Park is on La Crosse Street, on your right as you drive west.
From South La Crosse: Take your best route to Highway 14/16/35 into La Crosse. Turn right onto Losey Boulevard and follow it north. Take a left onto La Crosse Street, which is also Highway 16 going west. Myrick Park is on La Crosse Street, on your right as you drive west. To Peaberry's Coffee ShopFrom North of La Crosse: Take your best route to Highway 53 into La Crosse. Continue south on Hwy 53 past the train overpass. Peaberry's is located at the north end of the the Three Rivers Plaza strip mall, and will be on your left. If you drive past the Festival Foods grocery store, you've gone too far south. From South of La Crosse: Take your best route to Highway 53 into La Crosse. Continue north on Highway 53 past La Crosse Street and the Festival Foods grocery store that will be on your right. Peaberry's is located at the north end of the Three Rivers Plaza strip mall on your right. From East of La Crosse: Take your best route to La Crosse Street traveling east. Turn right onto Copeland Avenue and continue past the Festival Foods grocery store that will be on your right. Peaberry's is located at the north end of the Three Rivers Plaza strip mall on your right. To the Rod and Gun ClubTake your best route to Hwy 35 South of La Crosse, WI. Turn left on County K across from Goose Island Park. Go 1.4 miles to N Chimpunk Road. Turn left. Go 1.4 miles, then turn left at the Rod and Gun Club just after the cemetary. The club is set back off the road: Look for a gate that should be open when we have practice. (Note: On the right is a brown house with a orange sign.) To the Taylor Public LibraryFrom I-94 west of Hixton: Take I-94 South to the Hixton exit. From Hixton, take 95 West to County Road P (about seven miles). Take County P into Tayor, ant turn left onto Second Street immediately after the railroad tracks. Go through downtown and watch for a large red brick buildingon the south side of the street. (It used to be a grade school.) The sign reads "Village of Taylor Municipal Building". Park in the back or on the street in front of the building. From 54 east of Black River Falls: Take 54 to Black River Falls and pick up I-94 north. Proceed as above. From I-94 South of Hixton: From CAM, Take I-94 north to the Hixton exit. Proceed as above. From Highway 53 South of Blair: Take Highway 53 North to Blair. Go through Blair and pick up 95. Go east about 8 miles to County P. There is a sign pointing to Taylor from both directions. Proceed as above. To the Trempealeau County FairgroundsFrom I-90 at LaCrosse: Take the Highway 53 exit north. (53 north and 53 south are two different exits). Follow 53 north 20 miles. Turn right on 53 into Galesville. Go through town, and watch the left side of the road for a permanent sign at Park Drive saying "Trempealeau County Fairgrounds". Follow Park Drive for about a block to the fairgrounds. From Winona, MN area: Take Highway 54 east to Galesville. Turn left onto 53 and proceed through town, as above. From I-94 at Black River Falls: Take 54 west. It will join 53. Continue on 53 when it turns north into Galesville, and proceed as above. From I-94 at Osseo: Take Highway 10 into Osseo. Go one mile. Turn left onto 53. Go 45 miles south to Galesville. Pass the high school, Piggly Wiggly, and hardware store and watch for the permanent sign saying "Trempealeau County Fairgrounds" on the right (Park Drive). To Valgarth and Ariella's HomeTake your best route to I-90 and take Exit 2 to the stop sign. Take a left onto County B. Take the first left onto Fanta Reed Road. Take a right at the first stop sign (Lakeshore). Turn left onto Richmond Avenue (about 8 - 10 blocks). 818 is the second-to-last house on the left. To Wedgewood CommonsFrom I-90: Take the Hwy 53 exit south into La Crosse (This is exit 3 if coming from the North and Exit 3B if coming from the South). Eventually 53 will join with and become Hwy 14/61. Continue on 14/61 until shortly past the brewery you will take a right onto Jackson Street. Jackson Street ends and after one block, and you will need to take a left onto Norplex Drive. Take the first left onto Miller Street. Continue down Miller until you see a large apartment complex. This is Wedgewood Commons. The address is 1935 Miller Street. The complex is a security building. (Chances are that someone will be posted to "look out" for Shire arrivals.) From La Crescent, MN: Take Hwy 14/61 across the river, and continue south on 14/61. Follow the above directions. From South of La Crosse: Take Hwy 14/61 into La Crosse. Continue past Gunderson Lutheran Hospital, and 14/61 will split into a one-way street going north. This is 4th Street. Continue for two blocks to Jackson Street. Take a left onto Jackson Street. Follow the above directions. |
